Hi everyone! Steff and I are so excited to share this cute monogram door hang with you! We think it’s the perfect transition from summer to fall for your front door! It’s a pretty basic project that can be customized in lots of ways, starting with your personal monogram of course. 🙂
Here’s what you need to make your own:
- Banner door hang
- Wood monogram
- White paint
- Yellow paint
- Foam brushes
- Ribbon for hanging
- Wood glue
- Sanding block (or sand paper)
- Vinyl, stickers, or tape for the design
Let’s get started with the tutorial!
First, wipe away any saw dust that’s on the pennant; then paint a coat of stain over the front and sides. You can stain the back too if you’d like. (We LOVE this water based stain by Minwax that The Wood Connection carries.)
Once the stain is dry, you can place your vinyl, stickers or tape design. We used the Silhouette to cut some cute arrows on vinyl. Set your letter (don’t glue it yet) on the pennant before placing your design so it will look good with your specific monogram. We just eyeballed the placement of our arrows–some are facing in, some are facing out.
Now set the letter aside and paint over the whole pennant with white paint. Be sure to dab around the vinyl being careful not to push paint into the arrows. If you dab carefully around the vinyl for the first coat of paint, you can paint more freely for the second coat. The paint creates kind of a seal around the vinyl after the first coat dries. We did two light coats of white. (This picture is after one coat.)
Now for the ribbon! Take one end of the ribbon and tie a bow, then cut the long end off. The remaining ribbon is what you’ll use to hang the pennant. Set the bow aside and push the ends of the remaining ribbon through the two holes at the top of the door hang. Tie a knot at the front on both sides. Now hot glue the bow over the knot on one side.
It’s ready to hang!
This door hang looks great on a front door of course, but it’s also really cute on a wall or hanging from a wreath stand!
This was the project for our August Wood Connection craft classes and we had such a great time! We LOVE teaching these craft classes and putting together the craft kits with simple step by step instructions. Thanks so much to The Wood Connection for having us today!
